KARACHI:

The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi paid tribute to celebrated musicians Asif Hassan Mehdi, Arif Hassan Mehdi and Khursheed Hussain on Wednesday. An event was held for the ACP Karachi’s governing body, friends, colleagues and family members of the late artists at the Juan Elia auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion, ACP Karachi President Muhammad Ahmed Shah said that that ACP has always been at the forefront for the welfare of the artists committee. Every artists has a right on ACP’s resources, he said, adding that our society needs to appreciate and value art and artists. Offering condolences to the families of the late artists, he vowed to continue working for the betterment of artists.

Asif Mehdi’s wife, Rubi Asif, recalled her husband fondly as the best husband and a great father, who always tried to fulfil his family’s wishes. His son, Ali Asif Mehdi, said that after the death of his father the musical chapter of the family has been closed forever. Renowned musician Azhar Hussain lamented that three of the community’s dearest friends and great artists had passed away.

“It was an honour for me to be a student of Mehdi Hassan’s family. The artist spent all his life, to the extent of madness, devoted to his work,” said Ghulam Abbas.

Meanwhile, Amjad Shah, the producer of Pakistan Television (PTV), said that it’s a good tradition that the ACP organises such events in memory of departed artists.

The event was moderated by Noman Khan and Tanveer Afridi and a documentary on Asif Mehdi, produced by Amjad Shah, was also screened on the occasion.
