Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Human Rights Directorate organised a 'khuli kacheri' at the District Council Hall on Wednesday where government representatives were also present. The programme was arranged by the provincial Human Rights Advisor Saeedullah Jan.
Additional Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Abid briefed about the purpose and performance of the directorate and also sought feedback from participants on how to make the body more effective.
District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Rashid Khan and Local Government Assistant Director (AD) Haroon Khan were also present during the programme.
On the occasion, a young social worker, Tauqeer Zaheer, drew the participants’ attention towards the plight of transgender people and beggars while suggesting that registration, education, hostel and other facilities be provided to them to make them useful citizens of society.
He said that the district administration has already been informed in writing in this regard.

In response, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Muhammad Abid said that transgenders’ registration has started, however, registration of beggars could further check the begging culture.
The DSWO added that the department has done a lot to provide various kinds of assistance to transgender people with the help of NGOs. However, their consent is required for education, hostel and other matters as they usually live under the supervision of their gurus who are like guardians and parents for these people.
