RAWALPINDI:

The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ETNCD) Punjab has increased the fee for computerised number plates of vehicles and motorcycles.

The fee for commercial vehicles, buses, wagons, trucks, rickshaws, taxis, and cars has been increased from Rs1,200 to Rs1,500 while the fee for motorcycles has been increased from Rs750 to Rs1,000. The levy will be applicable to newly registered vehicles.

Around 210,000 computerised number plates of motorcycles are pending since November 2019.

The ETNCD had awarded a new contract for manufacturing number plates to NRTC but the quality of computerised plates was inferior while their colour has also been changed.

The old number plates were green and white with the Punjab government monogram. The new number plates are completely white and without a monogram.

In the coming months, up to 20,000 old and new number plates will be issued and delivered to their owners at the same time.

Moreover, the department has also issued 11,482 computerised smart cards for the registration of new vehicles.
