India reports 38,353 new Covid-19 infections

The south Asian nation's tally of infections crossed 32 million

NEW DELHI,:

India reported on Wednesday 38,353 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the government said in a statement.

The south Asian nation's tally of infections crossed 32 million, the second-highest worldwide after the United States.

China also reported on Friday its highest daily count for new coronavirus cases in its current outbreak, fuelled by a surge in locally transmitted infections.

China also reported 124 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the mainland for August 5, according to the National Health Commission. That's up from 85 a day earlier.

Of the new confirmed infections, 80 were locally transmitted, the health authority said, up from 62 local cases a day earlier.
