Farhan Akhtar to make directorial comeback with film starring Alia, Priyanka, Katrina

With 'Jee Le Zaraa', Indian actor is returning to the director’s chair after a decade since 'Don 2'

Indian actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is returning to the director’s chair with his upcoming feature Jee Le Zaraa, a decade after helming Don 2 following which, he shifted gears to pursue acting.

Starring Bollywood A-listers Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the film is due to start shooting in September 2022, according to Variety. “It’s a slice-of-life film with three women on the road,” Akhtar informed the outlet.

Chopra, Kaif and Bhatt also shared a motion poster of Akhtar’s film on their respective social media handles on Tuesday. The poster saw their names etched alongside a car made out of a montage of various tourist attractions in India. The motion poster gives major Dil Chahta Hai and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara vibes.

Written by Farhan, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, Jee Le Zaraa has been co-produced by Tiger Baby Productions. Akhtar and his business partner Ritesh Sidhwani, both of whom run Excel Entertainment India, are currently engrossed in celebrating 20 years of their venture, along with the success of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s boxing drama Toofaan.

Jee Le Zaraa will also mark Chopra's return to Bollywood after The Sky Is Pink. The actor had worked with Akhtar in the film. While it adds to the long list of films Bhatt is set to star in. The actor has Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, SS Rajamouli's RRR and Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra with Ranbir Kapoor in the making. She recently began work on her home production, Darlings, with Shefali Shah.

Moreover, Kaif has Phone Bhoot with Ishaan Khatter, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Tiger 3 with Salman Khan in the pipeline.

In the streaming space, Excel Entertainment has two additional shows lined up with Netflix. Eternally Confused and Eager for Love is in the teen romance space, while Queen of the Hill is led by two women protagonists.

For Amazon, the second season of International Emmy-nominated drama Made in Heaven is in the works, as is the third season of cricket-themed Inside Edge, which was also nominated for an Emmy. And the third season of hinterland crime drama Mirzapur is in the making as well.
