RAWALPINDI:

As of Sunday, Gujar Khan Police has still not been able to apprehend the man who slashed the nose of his ex-wife with the help of accomplices despite the passage of nearly two weeks.

The victim had nominated five suspects in the first information report (FIR) including her ex-spouse and his sister and her husband. According to police, 32-year-old Maryam registered a case against her former husband, Taj Din of Mirpur.

The victim said that after getting a divorce from him, she married Ghulam Farid of Gujrat, eight months ago. Her exhusband forcibly took her from Gujrat to Mirpur. Her present husband tried to rescue her but a police patrol arrived at the scene and since her present husband did not have a marriage certificate with him at that moment, the police handed the woman over to the assailant.

The victim said on the evening of July 27 that her ex-husband and his sister took her to Dhok Major to visit an ill uncle. From there, Taj Din took her to an open ground near his friend Qasim’s house in Dalmi where two other people were present. With the help of his accomplices, her former husband tied her hands and feet and cut off her nose with a dagger.

The culprits also tried to cut her foot but fled as the victim was screaming. Rawalpindi City Police Officer Ahsan Younis took notice of the incident and ordered the culprits’ immediate arrest. The police have conducted many raids in Mirpur and other localities to arrest the suspects but have not yet succeeded.

A senior police official told The Express Tribune that two accomplices had been arrested and the other culprits would soon be arrested.
