ISLAMABAD:

Senate Standing Committee on Commerce Chairman Zeeshan Khanzada on Friday emphasised that Pakistan would become a transit hub in future and would also provide the opportunity of economic integration in the region.

Talking to South Korean Ambassador Sang-Pyo, Khanzada invited Korean companies to forge joint ventures with their Pakistani counterparts in meetings of the Pak-South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The Korean envoy asserted that Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani had always extended his support for resolving issues pertaining to trade and business activities.

Senator Samina Mumtaz, while welcoming the ambassador, said that the Pak-South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group would help enhance economic development.

During the meeting, both parties agreed that better joint business ventures between the two countries could significantly help broaden bilateral cooperation in all areas.

Senator Sana Jamali added that business communities of both countries could take advantage of the available opportunities and promote mutual trade and investment.

The Parliamentary Friendship Group also put forward its suggestions on business-to-business meetings, exchange of high-level trade delegations and bilateral exhibitions, which would provide excellent and profitable business opportunities to foreign investors and traders.

Shedding light on employment opportunities for the skilled and unskilled workers in Korea, the envoy noted that 10,000 Pakistani labourers were working in Korea before Covid-19.

“Unfortunately, as per standard operating procedures, no new workers can enter Korea after Covid-19,” he added.

The ambassador underlined that the Korean industry needed more skilled workers from Pakistan and Seoul would revise its visa policies to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

Highlighting the potential of tourism, the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group discussed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of tourism for boosting the country’s revenue and creating employment opportunities.
