Ghana Ali and her husband are unbothered by social media trolls

Actor’s husband Umair Gulzar has been the subject of relentless fat-shaming online

Members of the entertainment industry deal with constant scrutiny on social media. While several fans take to the comment section of their posts to shower celebrities with love and appreciation, a significant chunk of it is populated by social media trolls. While some choose to comment on the celebrity’s talent (or, in their opinion, lack thereof) several of the comments revolve around the physical appearance of the individual in question.

While most trolling is directed towards the celebrity, sometimes social media bullies choose to move past the famous personality to comment on their family and loved ones. Actor Ghana Ali and her husband are no strangers to this particular kind of online bullying, however, according to the actor, the two remain unbothered.

Ghana, who recently tied the knot with Umair Gulzar in May 2021, has been subjected to relentless trolling on the subject of her husband’s weight on social media. Instead of congratulatory messages, Ghana’s marriage announcement was followed by a barrage of criticism of her husband’s physical appearance. The actor hasn’t let the trolling get to her, continuing to share loved-up pictures with Umair on Instagram, and she isn’t afraid to give the bullies a shut-up call every now and then in the comments section of her posts.

Speaking to Urdu News, the Besharam actor explained, “What people say doesn’t really affect me. It was hurtful at first, but then I stopped paying attention to what people were saying. When I feel like the comments on my husband’s physical appearance are getting a little too out of hand, I make it a point to respond to them. The rest can say whatever they want.”

When asked about whether the social media bullying gets to her husband, Ghana replied, “My husband is even more unbothered than I am. What people say doesn’t affect him at all. The truth is, he doesn’t even read the things people say about him online.” She continued, “If you pay too much attention to what people are saying and end up taking it to heart, you won’t be able to survive. If you let the trolling make you upset, you’ll end up being weak.”

On her marriage to Umair, Ghana revealed, “We had been friends for a long time before marriage. We just involved our families and got married. I am very happy in my marriage because my husband is incredibly supportive.” The actor revealed that she enjoys more than just acting. “I enjoy cooking food and I am very interested in interior design. When I set up my home, my husband was shocked at how interested I was in interior design.”

When asked what kind of roles she prefers, Ghana explained, “I am up for complex, challenging roles, and refuse anything that limits me as a performer. There is no such thing as a big or small role. It all depends on how the actor brings that character to life on the screen.”

Ghana’s film Gawah Rehna is all set to release soon, the success of which the actor is hopeful for. On the work front, Ghana shared, “These days I’m busy wrapping up shooting for dramas. I’ll be taking a break for a year after I’m done with that to focus on my home and personal life.”
