LAHORE: The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) plans to establish 100 model milk shops to supply quality milk at the prices set on June 10.

At present, 90 such shops are already functioning across the city. These shops will be equipped with lactometres to monitor the quality of milk being sold. The DCO, Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta, on Tuesday issued directives to all the tehsil municipal officers (TMOs) and the Livestock department officials in this regard.  He has also set up a committee comprising six senior officials to monitor the establishment of these outlets. The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report within two weeks.

Muhammad Ayub, the chief food inspector, said that uniform prices will be ensured across all model shops –buffalo milk (with 5 per cent fat content) will be available at Rs45 per litre and cow milk (with 3.5 per cent fat content) will cost Rs40 per litre. He added that yogurt will be sold at Rs50 per kg.

The administration has called a meeting with aspirant milk sellers next week to review their facilities and get them registered.

The district officer (Food), Dr Masood Ashraf, said that their teams would visit each applicant’s shop and only allow registration once they are satisfied with the hygiene, availability of lactometers and price lists displayed at the counters.

He said that around 190 banners have already been prepared to be distributed amongst approved shops. He added that those showing good performance would be awarded with certificates and cash awards.
