Envoy cites food processing, auto as potential sectors for investment

Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Kuninori Matsuda called on Board of Investment (BOI) Secretary Fareena Mazhar on Tuesday along with Japanese investors to discuss investment opportunities in the country.

During the meeting, Mazhar assured the ambassador of full support for facilitating Japanese investment in Pakistan. The secretary highlighted numerous investment opportunities for foreign investors in Pakistan.

The envoy appreciated the secretary and her team for working towards creating an environment conducive for existing and potential investors and outlined the interest of Japanese companies in making further investment in Pakistan. He indicated that some Japanese companies were expected to tap Pakistan’s market soon. Discussing the potential areas of interest, Matsuda showed interest specifically in food processing and automobile sectors, which were already the priority sectors of Pakistan in terms of incentives.

Addressing concerns of the ambassador about advance tax, Mazhar assured him that she would take up the matter with the quarters concerned and asserted that she was confident the issue would be resolved soon. During the meeting, both sides underscored the need for bilateral investment and creating mutually beneficial scenarios.
