Actor Shilpa Shetty has finally released her statement weeks after husband Raj Kundra was arrested for allegedly creating and distributing pornographic content via mobile apps, reported The Indian Express.
The actor, who had approached the Bombay High Court seeking to hold back various media organisations from publishing any “false, malicious and defamatory” content against her, revealed in the statement that she is being subjected to a “media trial”.
The B-town starlet started off her note with, “Yes! The past few days have been challenging, on every front. There have been a lot of rumours and accusations. A lot of unwarranted aspersions on me cast by the media and (not so) well-wishers as well. A lot of trolling and questions posed, not only to me but also to my family.”
Shilpa reiterated that she will not comment on the case itself. “My stand! I have not commented yet and will continue to refrain from doing so on this case as it is subjudice, so please stop attributing false quotes on my behalf.”
Asking everyone to respect her privacy, she continued, “I am a proud law-abiding Indian citizen and a hardworking professional for the last 29 years. People have put their faith in me and I’ve never let anyone down. So, most importantly, I request you to respect my family’s and my right to privacy in these times.”
Earlier, Shilpa filed a defamation suit in Bombay High Court against 29 media personnel and media houses. She accused them of false reporting and maligning her image. The 46-year-old actor urged the High Court to issue a "permanent and mandatory injunction restraining the defendants, (themselves and through their servants, agents, assigns and/or any person claiming by or through them) from making and/or publishing and/or reproducing and/or circulating and/or speaking and/or communicating, any derogatory and defamatory statements."
In her complaint, Shilpa also requested the High Court to issue a mandatory order directing the defendants to forthwith delete and/or remove the defamatory articles and the defamatory videos from their respective websites and social media platforms and to issue an unconditional apology. "The defendants be ordered and directed to pay to the plaintiff (Shilpa) an amount of INR20 crore together with interest thereon at 18 per cent per annum from the date of filing of the suit until payment and/or realisation," read the plea.
Shilpa also condemned Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms for permitting the uploading of defamatory articles and videos. Raj was arrested on July 19 along with 11 other people on charges related to the alleged creation of pornographic films.
