Non-compliance of production order irks Punjab PA speaker

Assembly session adjourned again as govt failed to produce Nazir Chohan in House

Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi adjourned the session as the government failed to produce Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) MPA Nazir Chohan for the second consecutive day in the PA.

Speaker Elahi spoke few words and said as per what we had decided the House is adjourned by Monday 2:00 pm.

Earlier on July 29, the quarters concerned had to produce Chohan before the Punjab Assembly in light of the production order which Speaker Elahi had issued but neither that day nor the following day (July 30) Chohan was produced.

On July 29 during the PA proceedings, the Speaker had claimed that “neither the House will be run nor will any legislation of the government be carried or passed till the appearance of the Chohan in PA”.

On Monday the House was to start at 2:00 pm but it started at 4:15 pm.

As the proceedings began Speaker Elahi said: “it seems that production order was not complied with, so we will do what we had decided earlier (Thursday) and the House proceeding is adjourned for Monday 2:00 pm”.

PTI’s Saeed Akbar Nawani, who had been nominated as a parliamentary leader in Punjab Assembly by Jahangir Tareen group, wanted to speak on point of order but the Speaker adjourned the House.

The Speaker had grilled the Punjab government and the bureaucrats over not being implemented the production orders.

“Session will be conducted every day and will be adjourned for the next day.

No legislation or government business will be carried on the agenda. Only Nazir Chohan will be discussed herein Punjab Assembly,” Speaker Elahi concluding whiling gave his agenda to the government.
