ISLAMABAD:

The postmen of Islamabad General Post Office (GPO) have snubbed their duties over receiving half of the allocated petrol for the past two months.

The postmen at one of the busiest GPOs in the country are facing problems as they are not being provided with the earmarked quantity of petrol for the last couple of months, The Express Tribune learnt on Tuesday.

The Postal Union Noop staged a protest for drawing the attention of the authorities towards the matter outside the GPO office. The protesters waved placards and banners inscribed with their demands and problems. As a result of this, they have stopped performing their duties.

The protesting postmen said they were compelled to get petrol tanks filled by their own pockets. Postal Union Noop Senior Vice Chairman Raja Bilal told that the postal employees delivered consignments even during extreme heat but the higher-ups did not care about it.

The official informed that the petrol quota has been halved to 30 litres from 60 litres. He decried that the salaries were not only enough to meet expenditures but also to fell short to account for spending extra on petrol.

Bilal said that the postmen were compelled to borrow money to get petrol tanks filled for official work.
