The 73rd martyrdom anniversary of Pakistan's first Nishan-e-Haider, Captain Raja Muhammad Sarwar, was observed on Tuesday, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Sarwar's native village of Sanghori in Gujar Khan. Major General Shahid Nazir laid the floral wreath and offered prayers on behalf of army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Captain Sarwar embraced martyrdom at Tilpatra in Azad Jammu and Kashmir during the war of 1948 and demonstrated indomitable courage and valour, added the military's media wing.

He holds the distinction of being the first recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military award.
