LAHORE:

Disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen has convened an important meeting of his group after Eidul Azha to review the federal government's promises.

The Tareen group will hold consultations on August 2 and 3 on political strategy. The implementation of the promises made to the group before the budget will also be reviewed.

Earlier this year, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) found Tareen and his son, Ali Tareen, allegedly involved in the multibillion-rupee sugar scam. An inquiry commission had been formed on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan to look into the scam.

In the meeting scheduled for August 2 and 3, the case against Nazir Chauhan, a member of the Tareen group, will also be discussed.

An FIR was lodged under sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 298 (making statements with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) and 153 (provoking to cause riot) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the complaint sent to the police on May 20, 2021, SAPM Shehzad Akbar claimed that Chohan’s statements while speaking in a TV show about the former's religious beliefs had put his life at risk.

“The offence has been committed to cause injury to the reputation, body, property and mind of the applicant and cause hatred in public at large towards the applicant,” the FIR read.
