Army officer, soldier martyred in Kurram operation

Three terrorists were also killed during the ‘area sanitisation operation’ in Zewa area of erstwhile FATA, says ISPR

An officer and a soldier of Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom during an intense exchange of fire with terrorists in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district on Tuesday, the military said.

Three terrorists were also killed during the ‘area sanitisation operation’ in Zewa area of erstwhile FATA, military’s media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement.

“The security forces conducted an area sanitisation operation in Zewa, Kurram district on reported presence of terrorists. Three terrorists were killed during the operation,” it said.

During intense exchange of fire with terrorists, Captain Basit, a 25-year-old resident of Haripur, and Sepoy Hazrat Bilal, a 22 year-old resident of Orakzai embraced shahadat (martyrdom), the Inter-Services Public Relations said. Cordon and search operation was underway to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, it added.

Last month, Naik Nazakat Khan, a 32-year-old resident of Attock, embraced martyrdom during a similar operation in North Waziristan district of the province.

Security forces had killed two terrorists in the intelligence-based operation (IBO) on June 20, According to ISPR.

The military's media wing said that the operation was conducted in North Waziristan's Spinwam area on reports of presence of the terrorists.
