Opportunities knock at the door of every nation, but only those people get the benefit who are ready for the movement towards development and progress, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Convenor Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui on Sunday.
Speaking at a career counselling session at the Arts Council of Pakistan, he said that when the opportunity of economic progress came to the region, “we were not ready and Bangladesh took the benefit. Today the people we joked about are far ahead of us.”
Addressing the gathering of youth he said that this is an era of technological advancement, over 100 multinational companies have done away with the condition of degrees and hiring people solely on their talent.
The way things are becoming new normal, it is hard to say what will be the schools and hospitals of the future. The pandemic has made distant learning, telemedicine, online shopping and many such things part of daily life. “You should take advantage of knowlage based economy to break the poverty trap like India and China,” he said.
In 1988 the incidence of poverty was 40 per cent in China and 55 per cent in India. Today the regional technological giants have poverty rate of one and 15 per cent respectively, the MQM-P leader said.
He also urged the urban youth to contest for the Commission for Superior Services (CSS) and Inter-Services Selection Board (ISSB) examinations, which remain free and fair.
