LAHORE:

Businessmen have called for establishing ripening centres in the country to fulfill the needs of international mango market.

“In this regard, the Ministry of Commerce should devise a policy and eliminate duty on the import of required machinery by issuing an SRO,” Pakistan Businesses Forum Vice President Ahmad Jawad told APP on Monday.

“Foreign exchange earned by Pakistani mangoes and bananas will double after the establishment of ripening centres with proper treatment.”

He was of the view that such facilities would also enhance export volumes and called for the announcement of a five-year tax holiday for firms that would operate the facility, citing that it would encourage the private sector to invest in the business.
