Court proceedings hampered: Strike against LG system, NGOs leads to shutdown

KARACHI:

All cases at the sessions and sub-ordinate courts came to a halt on Saturday.

The strike call by nationalist parties against the restoration of the Local Government System 2001 and the lawyers’ weekly protest against NGO offices inside prisons, left the courts deserted. Traffic was also thin because of the Karachi Transport Ittehad’s decision to keep their vehicles off the roads as they have lost 500 vehicles in attacks and arson during strikes.

The lawyers are boycotting the courts in their attempt to have NGO offices inside prisons removed.

So far one office has been shut down and the other has yet to be removed.
