The government has planned to spend Rs53.5 billion in fiscal year 2021-22 on agricultural development and reforms to enhance agricultural growth in the country, said Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam. Speaking at the National Assembly on Monday, he said that the government had earmarked Rs12 billion for the agriculture sector in the budget for 2021-22. “Apart from this, negotiations are underway with the Ministry of Finance for an additional Rs25 billion and Rs16.5 billion for development in various areas of this sector,” he said. “Enhancement of research in the agriculture sector, especially the adoption of quality seeds and other technologies, is the top priority of the government.”
