Walk held to highlight harmful effects of drugs

On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking or World Drug Day

On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking or World Drug Day, an awareness programme and walk was organised in Peshawar by the Social Welfare Department of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to raise awareness among the youth about the harmful effects of drugs.

The event was attended by doctors, civil society activists, journalists and people from all walks of life. Addressing the participants, Social Welfare Department District Officer Younis Afridi said more than 120 people were undergoing treatment at the Drug Rehabilitation Center in Peshawar.

“The government has taken steps to guide the people who are under treatment so that they could prove themselves capable for decent jobs after the rehabilitation,” he said. Speaking to the participants of the event, senior journalist Tariq Afaq said we all had to play a role for the prevention of drugs. The participants, on the occasion, appreciated the anti-drug measures taken by the government.
