RAWALPINDI:

In a major step, the Rawalpindi police have decided to prepare comprehensive profiles of the suspects nominated in child and women abuse cases.

The profiling of a suspect would include getting and recording their DNA information, and other basic details like age, color, and other related information. The data would be connected with the police mobile application to make it accessible to all citizens.

This was revealed by a police officer having information about the measure to The Express Tribune on condition of anonymity. He added that the district police would compile data of suspects in women and child abuse cases who were detained, convicted, or acquitted during the last ten years. The police would also seek help from Punjab Information Technology (IT) Board.

The data would not include the names of the suspects who were exonerated in such cases after their innocence was proved.

However, the criminals whose DNA samples matched and chargesheets were filed against them in the courts on the basis of concrete evidence would be profiled.

The police officer said there are 800 suspects whose DNA test profile is present in the police records while the record comprising other offenders would be obtained from Punjab Forensic Laboratory.

The official told The Express Tribune that the data would comprise a four-angle image, biometrics, DNA test report, colour, race, height, and age along with details and nature of the case against a suspect.

The police officer said that the profiling of child and women abusers would also make their information accessible to the citizens as it would be linked with the Rawalpindi police mobile application.

It will also make it easier to identify all suspects who have been convicted in various cases or acquitted after the settlement with the victims or their families.

The police official said they would have complete details of suspects involved in this heinous crime against women and children in the soft form. The profiling will also help in the assessment of the psychological and physical status of the offenders.
