Afridi showcases Eid collection

KARACHI:

The much-anticipated ensemble collection by cricketer-cum-entrepreneur Shahid Afridi was finally showcased at The Imperial, Karachi, on August 12.

The collection, called ‘Widyaan’ (an Arabic word meaning the fashion valley), boasts designs with embroidered necklines, moderate use of laces and other embellishments. Toying with bright colours — blue, pink, red, yellow and green — the collection is on chiffon and pure silk which give it a classic yet modern touch.

“I love the designs on this fabric. I also like the colours as they’re appealing,” said Afridi who was accompanied by two of his daughters. He also added that the ladies’ clothing line has come out on his female fans’ request.

The first day of the exhibition was a small post-iftar affair sans celebrities with very few media personnel. All seems to have gone well at the event, except for the shaky topic of the prices of the clothes.

The cricketer struggled to hide his shock when asked why his collection — priced between Rs8,500 and Rs12,800 — was so expensive. “I hope that’s not the case. The clothes are cheaper than most other exhibitions that are currently being held in the city,” he replied.

The customers on the other hand, were divided on their opinion regarding the prices of the ensemble collection. Shumaila Moiz, who was at the exhibition with her family said, “The prices were extremely high.”

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Rabia Chaudhry thought the price range was “completely fair”, keeping the fabric of silk and chiffon in mind.  “The colour combination was also good. I’m glad that he has brought in something different.”
