LAHORE: The District Coordination Officer (DCO) submitted details of assets owned by tehsildars, naib tehsildars and patwaris of the district to the Lahore High Court. DCO Ahad Cheema and Chief Secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa appeared before Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry in a contempt of court petition against a patwari for not issuing farde malkiat (ownership certificate) to the petitioner despite a court order. The chief justice directed the chief secretary to evolve a mechanism to protect ownership records so that patwaris could not tamper with them. The CJ said patwaris had become a symbol of corruption and nobody dared lodge a complaint against them.
