RAWALPINDI:

The families of two suspects killed during a police encounter on charges of gunning down Civil Lines SHO Imran Abbas held a protest at Liaquat Bagh Chowk on Wednesday.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against Rawalpindi police and blocked Murree Road owing to which motorists faced extreme difficulties. The demonstration was joined by a large number of women, children, and senior citizens.

The protesters claimed Shahid and Zahid were killed in fake police shootouts and demanded a judicial inquiry of the incidents. On receiving news of the rally City Police SHO reached the site with a police contingent and held a dialogue with the protesters. He assured them that their demands would be met which they dispersed peacefully.

A police spokesperson said that the families held a protest. He said Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Muhammad Ahsan Younis had requested a judicial inquiry into the shootouts in which both suspects nominated in SHO’s killing were gunned down.

He said a district and sessions judge had already issued orders for a judicial inquiry on the CPO’s request. He added that the petitions filed by the slain suspects’ family members were already dismissed by the court
