Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Director General Dr Ikram Ali Malik said on Tuesday that the FDE was taking initiatives to resolve issues on a priority basis of teaching and non-teaching staff and public educational institutions of Islamabad. During the last six months, a record number of promotion cases of teaching and non-teaching staff have been resolved, and all cases of pensions had also been resolved.
He made these remarks while speaking to a delegation of the Federal Government Teachers Association (FGTA) led by its president Malik Ameer Ahmad Khan. Dr Ikram said Rs700 million will be allocated to FDE in the new budget. This would help meet all needs of educational institutions.
Dr Ikram said new inductions would be made besides resolving the issue of further promotions in light of the Islamabad High Court decision regarding new rules. This would also help address the shortage of teachers in government schools.
He said 500 science teachers would join FDE educational institutions through Federal Public Service Commission during the current year. More than 200 fellowships would be awarded to graduates of 10 renowned universities, under a World Bank project to bring further improvement in education standards. He added two tractors were being purchased on an urgent basis for the cleanliness of educational institutions grounds.
