‘Rs7b motor vehicle tax collected from Karachi’
Motor vehicle tax worth Rs7 billion was collected from Karachi from July 2020 to April 2021, said Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla on Tuesday.
Elaborating further, he said that Rs436.62 million was collected from Hyderabad and Rs207.26m was collected from the Sukkur region in terms of motor vehicle tax during the same period.
The provincial minister added that Rs82.57m was collected from Shaheed Benazirabad, Rs99.38m from Larkana and Rs53.25m from Mirpurkhas under the head during the period under review.
According to Chawla, his department recovered Rs1.4 billion from property owners in Karachi, Rs69.42m in property taxes from Hyderabad and Rs32.63m from Sukkur.
Moreover, the department recovered Rs8.98m worth of property tax from Shaheed Benazirabad, Rs20.43m from Larkana and Rs9.95m from Mirpurkhas.
The minister said that computerised challans have been issued to property tax defaulters.
In case property owners have not received the challan, they should contact the relevant office of Sindh excise department, he said..
Chawla said that keeping in view the situation of coronavirus, SOPs are being implemented in the offices of Sindh Excise Department and taxpayers should come to the offices following the SOPs.
He said that he was sure to achieve tax targets before the end of this financial year.
