‘Expats sending remittances to get more perks from govt’
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari Sunday has said overseas Pakistani workers have expressed tremendous interest in State Bank’s Roshan Digital Account (RDA) initiative.
Talking to a television channel, he said foreign remittances held great importance for the country as it was the backbone of the national economy. The SAPM said the government would soon announce groundbreaking initiatives for expatriates sending foreign remittances to Pakistan.
He said one billion dollars had been sent to Pakistan in remittances in the last seven months after the RDA was introduced.
This fact, he said, was a reflection of overseas Pakistanis confidence in the government’s policies.
He added overseas Pakistanis were keen to invest in sectors like construction, manufacturing, tourism, hoteling and other productive segments of the economy.
He said the government was taking different measures to create ease of doing business opportunities.
Bukhari said the government had sent 970,000 Pakistanis for employment to different countries during its first 18 months and also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Japan in this regard.
