PESHAWAR:

The prevailing third wave of Covid-19 has claimed the life of yet another medic in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), bringing the total number of doctors killed so far to 67 across the province.

Dr Fazal Rahim was a senior pathologist in District Headquarters Hospital Timergara, Lower Dir.

He breathed his last on Wednesday after being admitted at the hospital for the past two weeks. Dr Rahim will be laid to rest in Kala, Dag village on Thursday (today).

Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) has once again demanded of the government to pay the compensation or shaheed package to the families of deceased doctors who were killed in the pandemic.

PDA blamed that not a single family had been paid by the government since April last year despite the fact that the package had already been approved by the provincial cabinet.

So far 103 health workers have lost their lives in the pandemic.

On the other hand, PDA has also hit out at the PTI government for not providing special allowance announced for the staff of Covid-19 wards to all staffers, adding that all the hospital staff was busy dealing with the Covid patients one or other way and all of them should be paid the allowance announced by the administration of the three hospitals of Peshawar on the occasion of Eid.
