Security beefed-up for Youm-e-Ali

IG says modern equipment should be fully utilised for Majalis security

Mourning processions would not be allowed across the province on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali (AS) this year, stated Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani on Sunday.

According to the orders of the provincial government and guidelines of the NCOC, mourning processions were not allowed across the province this year, he added. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting on security arrangements for at the camp office.

He further said that on Youm-e-Ali (AS), only Majalis would be held in the province under strict implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) of coronavirus for which police teams would provide full security.

The IGP further said that the decision not to hold the procession was taken only to stop the spread of the pandemic.

He directed the police officers to work with the district administration to take the licence holders and organisers of the processions into confidence not to hold a procession.

“If a procession is taken out anywhere in the province, the organisers will face legal action.”
