The Balochistan National Party (BNP) staged a demonstration on Thursday against what they termed was a biased house-to-house search in Baloch-dominated areas of the provincial capital.
The protesters blocked the road near the Kechi Baig area and raised slogans against the government and law-enforcement agencies.
Terming the violation of the sanctity of their homes unbearable, president of BNP’s Quetta chapter Mir Ghulam Rasul Mengal said: “Several BNP activists, who had done nothing, were arrested during the house-to-house searches this week.”
“The government must stop the operation immediately and release all the detained political activists,” he said.
Personnel of Frontier Corps, police and Anti-Terrorism Force (ATF) are participating in the joint operation, which was mounted after a spate of sectarian killings in Quetta.
Criticising police for not being able to trace killers, Mengal said that as many as 25 BNP leaders and party activists had so far been targeted and killed but police had not been able to arrest any of the culprits involved.
