Akshay Kumar donates INR 10m to support victims of Covid-19

Actor donated the money to Gautam Gambhir's Foundation.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has donated INR1crore [INR 10 million] to Gautam Gambhir Foundation in light of India’s ongoing fight against the pandemic.

The cricketer-turned-politician took to Twitter to announce the news to his fans and followers. Gambhir also thanked the actor, calling him “a ray of hope.” In response, Kumar assured he was glad to help. Kumar’s money has been donated to help the people affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

"Every help in this gloom comes as a ray of hope. Thanks a lot Akshay Kumar for committing INR1crore to #GGF for food, meds and oxygen for the needy! God bless,” wrote Gambhir. Kumar then tweeted, "These are really tough times Gautam Gambhir. Glad I could help. Wish we all get out of this crisis soon, stay safe."

The Ram Setu actor is among the most philanthropic celebrities of Bollywood. Known to give it all when need be, last year, he donated INR25crore to Modi’s PM CARES Fund for coronavirus relief and INR2crore to Mumbai Police Foundation, reported India Today. He had also donated INR1crore each to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Kaziranga Park rescue mission when the state was affected by floods.

But that’s not all, in 2015, Kumar donated INR1crore for the Chennai flood relief work and financially contributed to the relief work during Kerala Floods as well. When Odisha was ravaged by Cyclone Fani, Kumar donated INR1crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief fund to help the cyclone victims. Apart from all these financial reliefs, the actor also provided PPE supplies to frontline healthcare workers fighting the deadly coronavirus.
