TDAP urges businessmen to explore new markets

CEO laments visits of trade delegations to foreign countries suspended for past one year

ISLAMABAD:

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will facilitate businessmen in promoting exports, however, they should be more proactive in exploring new markets to significantly uplift country’s exports, said TDAP CEO Arif Ahmed Khan.

Speaking at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), he urged exporters to approach concerned regional TDAP offices to inform the authority about their problems so that it can address them.

“More research officers would be hired to develop studies and reports for exporters,” he said. “The entity is conducting training programs for exporters in collaboration with the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi and soon these kinds of training programs would be started in Lahore and Islamabad as well.”

He detailed that organising visits of trade delegations to foreign countries was the core activity of TDAP, however, due to the pandemic this activity has been suspended for the past one year.

Speaking on the occasion ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan said that promoting exports of Pakistan was of vital importance to improve economy. He requested TDAP to extend all possible support to the business community for enhancing country’s exports.

“Bangladesh’s exports crossed $40 billion in 2019 but Pakistan’s annual exports are still standing at around $22-23 billion despite the fact that our country has huge potential for exports,” he said.
