ISLAMABAD:

The power system in Balochistan should be improved further, said Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and directed officials of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to complete the ongoing projects in the province at the earliest in order to give relief to the people.

His remarks came during a meeting with the Nepra chairman on Wednesday, who called on him to brief about the power supply situation in the province.

Exchanging views on the overall energy situation in the province, the Senate chairman said, “Local resources should be utilised to increase power generation capacity in the province.”

During the meeting, he also directed the visiting dignitaries to take immediate steps to control load-shedding in the province. Keeping in view the importance of Gwadar, Sanjrani directed the Nepra chairman and Nepra member (Balochistan) to complete power supply projects in Gwadar as soon as possible.

He stressed that an effective plan needed to be formulated to provide electricity facilities to the remote areas of Balochistan. He emphasised that reliance on alternative energy sources would reduce load-shedding, therefore it was necessary to take effective steps to generate clean and cheap electricity from alternative resources. “Suitable steps should also be taken for power generation,” he said.
