Police nab 433, recover Rs23.28m in two weeks

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Operations) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer said on Sunday that the capital police accelerated its efforts against criminals and has arrested 433 suspects in the last two weeks with recovery of looted items worth Rs23.28 million.

Following directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jamilur Rehman and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Afzaal Ahmad Kausar, renewed efforts were made and police achieved remarkable success, a spokesperson said.

SSP (Operations) stated that 67 culprits were arrested involved in dacoity, robbery, and car and motorcycle theft with recoveries worth Rs17.62 million while 45 absconders were held during the same period while complete challans of 292 cases were sent to concerned apex courts.

Dr Tanveer further said that ICT Police had launched a special campaign against drug dealers and bootleggers for elimination of this menace from the federal capital. During this campaign, the police nabbed 30 accused and recovered 14.745 kilogrammes of hashish, 832 grammes of heroin, 560 grammes of ice-meth, 86 grammes of kokanee, and 172 wine bottles from them.

Moreover, 27 accused were also held for possessing illegal weapons and recovered 24 pistols, two Kalashnikovs, two guns, two daggers and 127 rounds from them.
