HYDERABAD:

Subjects such as water, productivity, climate change, stagnant yields, post-harvest losses, social disparity, malnutrition and food security should be linked to the agricultural policy, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad former vice chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmed Khan. Speaking at a webinar titled “Globalisation and Agriculture in Pakistan, Opportunities and Challenges” on Wednesday, he said malnutrition was found among 40% children. “Around 70% of children in the country do not have breakfast,” he expressed concern. “Policymakers need to pay attention to it.” He added that the poultry sector alone provided 70% of total meat to the market, however, market manipulation was a problem due to which consumers and producers suffered. He considered it shocking that sometimes farmers were given seeds which did not germinate. “There is no example like this in the entire world except for Pakistan,” he said.
