ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) has asked the government to provide all possible support to the export sector in the current difficult situation and has sought relief in the upcoming budget for 2021-22.

Speaking at a meeting, PCMAEA Senior Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmed said that other countries, including traditional rivals, were earning revenue from the export of handmade carpets and the government should take notice and issue directives for giving a boost to the carpet industry.

Meeting participants discussed the difficulties faced by the handloom carpet industry and related artisans. The association official said that keeping in view the situation created by the pandemic, the government should provide facilities and incentives to the export sector.

He voiced hope that the government would provide relief to the sector in the upcoming budget and the handloom carpet industry would be facilitated in line with the countries that were traditional rivals of Pakistan in the carpet sector.
