The police booked on Tuesday at least 270 persons on charges of attack on police, rioting, firing, damaging police mobile, attack on police stations and beating cops, in connection with protests staged by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan for the second consecutive day.
As riots gripped different areas of the city and sit-in resulted in logjams, the Kharadar Police arrested and book 21 persons for attacking police and a mobile on MA Jinnah Road and rioting.
The case against them has been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Sections 147, 148, 149, 353, 324, 341 and 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Separately, the Orangi Town Police booked 10 persons on charges of rioting, vandalism and attack on police.
The case was registered on behalf of Orangi Town SHO sub-inspector Kamran Ashar. Sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act have been included in the FIR.
According to the SHO, the enraged rioters attacked police mobile, vehicles of the Rapid Response Force and armoured vehicles. They also attacked the Orangi Town Police Station and pelted stones at cops, as a result of which over a dozen policemen were injured, the SHO said.
Besides, the Mominbad Police booked over 220 persons for attacking a Rapid Response Force vehicle and beating cops. Sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act have been included in the FIR.
The case was booked on behalf of Mominabad SHO Inspector Gul Awan, who said the police baton-charged the rioters and used shelling to disperse them.
