ABBOTABAD:

Transgenders are very much a part of our society and it is the duty of the police to ensure the protection of their rights.

This view was voiced by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hazara Division DIG Mirvais Niaz while speaking at an awareness workshop for transgender rights and prevention of children smuggling organised by the Vision Pakistan NGO at Abbottabad police lines.

He further said that to increase the professional capabilities of the Hazara police, more workshops and seminars of this kind would be held.

The DIG stated that the objective of the seminar was to create awareness among police officers of the rights of the transgender during an investigation at the police station level and to resolve their issues those are facing in society.

Mirvais Niaz said that police officers must strictly deal with the heinous crime of kidnapping and smuggling of children. "The awareness workshop about both issues would increase the capabilities of police officers and I am sure they would pass this information to their juniors and subordinates." DPO Abbottabad Zahoor Babar Afridi, Chief Executive Officer Vision Pakistan Tahir Ali Khilji, SP Investigation Ishtiaq Khan and others also participated strictly following Covid SOPs.
