One more police official succumbs to Covid

City police death toll rises to five

The deadly streak of the third coronavirus wave claimed the life of one more Lahore police official on Wednesday.

With the recent death, the total death toll of Lahore police has climbed to five.

A constable lost his life on Wednesday while at least 134 city police officials are currently under quarantine for recovery.

The victim identified as Muhammad Akhtar was posted in Police Station Defence Area (C) and had been suffering from Covid-19 infection for the last few days.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar has ex-pressed grief over the demise of the cop. He also sympathized with the grieving family and prayed for the martyred constable.

He said that as many as 804 police officers and officials of Lahore police have so far been affected by Covid-19 and 134 affected police officers and officials have quarantined themselves at their homes.

“A total of 664 police officers and officials have joined their duties after defeating the pandemic,” he added.

The city police chief said police are playing a pivotal role in protecting citizens from this virus as frontline workers.

He further said that Lahore Police is at a comparatively greater risk of coronavirus infection than any other citizen as they are performing field duties on pickets, hospital front desks, quarantine centers, and police stations.
