A woman was strangled to death over dowry in Kahna area of the provincial capital.

The victim’s heirs alleged that Shakila was killed by her in-laws over bringing less dowry.

According to police report, 18-year-old Shakila was married to Shakeel alias Basharat in Zahoor Town a few months ago.

Shakila’s mother Nasreen Bibi said that she had given dowry to her daughter according to her means.

However, a few days after the marriage, her son-in-law and his family started insulting her for not bringing dowry.

They asked her to get a plot of two marlas and gold earrings from her mother and when Shakila refused, they started to torture her.

Shakila’s husband along with his family members allegedly strangled her to death. The in-laws left the body in the street, locked their house and fled.

When the deceased’s mother reached the spot, her daughter had died.

She informed the police on the emergency phone line.

The police reached the spot and collected evidence. The body was taken to a hospital for postmortem and a case was registered against five members of the family, including Shakeel , the husband of the deceased.

In-charge Investigation Kahna Qaiser Aziz said that the suspects had locked the house and fled.

Teams have been formed to arrest them.
