Covid-19 claims 43 more lives in Punjab

With 2,451 fresh infections, total number of virus cases in province exceed 207,760

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 43 more lives in Punjab over the past 24 hours. According to the spokesperson for Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) on Friday, as many as 2,451 cases of coronavirus were reported in Punjab over the past 24 hours while the total number of cases across the province exceeded 207,760. Reportedly, the death toll had reached 6,140.

The P&SHD spokesperson said 1,566 cases were reported in Lahore, 17 in Nankana, 14 in Kasur, 19 in Sheikhupura, 126 in Rawalpindi, nine in Jhelum, four in Attock, one in Chakwal, four in Hafizabad, 58 in Gujranwala, 72 in Sialkot, seven in Narowal, 61 in Gujarat and 12 in Mandi Bahauddin. Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, while speaking to the media said among these virus-related deaths, 40 coronavirus patients died in hospitals and three in their homes.

The SACM further said that various areas in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rawalpindi were under lockdown, adding that it had been decided that shopping malls, restaurants and offices would remain closed in the areas of lockdown.
