Demi Lovato recalls horrific instances of sexual assault in a video from her new docuseries

Demi Lovato has opened up about being sexually assaulted by her drug dealer when she was 15 years old, reported People magazine. In her YouTube docuseries titled Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, the famed singer bared it all and shared some shockingly personal details of the abuse she has suffered over the course of her life, including two instances of rape.

The songstress revealed that one night in July 2018, when she almost died of a drug overdose, she was also sexually assaulted. “I didn't just overdose. I was taken advantage of," she stated. Elaborating on the encounter, Lovato’s friend Sirah Mitchell revealed that she had been given heroin that had been laced with another substance. Mitchell added that the drug dealer "ended up getting Lovato really high and leaving her for dead."

Providing more details from the night, the Sorry Not Sorry singer mentioned she was “naked and blue” when she was eventually found. “When I woke up in the hospital, they asked if we had had consensual intercourse. There was one flash that I had of him on top of me. I saw that flash and I said yes. It wasn't until a month after the overdose that I realised, 'You weren't in any state of mind to make a consensual decision’."

Speaking of a similar trauma from when she was a teenager, Lovato disclosed that she first lost her virginity out of rape. While she had been in a consensual relationship with the perpetrator, she had made it very clear to him that she was not ready for a sexual relationship at the time. "I was part of that Disney crowd that publicly said they were waiting until marriage. I didn't have the romantic first time," Lovato lamented. “I had to see this person all the time, so I stopped eating and coped in other ways."

She shared what had happened, with the adults around her but no action was taken. “They never got taken out of the movie they were in. I always kept it quiet because I've always had something to say. I don't know, I'm tired of opening my mouth,” said Lovato.

However, after two major instances of sexual abuse, the musician attempted to take control of the situation by contacting her abusers. “I called that person back a month later and tried to make it right by being in control. All it did was make me feel worse," she said of the assault she experienced as a teenager. “Both times were textbook trauma re-enactments, and I really beat myself up for years which is why I had a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that it was a rape when it happened,” concluded Lovato.

Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil premiers on YouTube on March 23, and is reported to be packed with more brave confessions on her part.
