PM reviews ongoing reforms

The transport project will ensure better services for passengers

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Imran Khan was briefed on Monday about the ongoing reforms in Pakistan Railways, Karachi Circular Railway and PM Railways Green Initiative. He was attending a meeting with Minister for Railways Azam Swati, Minister for Planning Asad Umar, Adviser on Institutional Reforms Dr Ishrat Husain, federal secretaries and other senior officers. During the meeting, he was told that a project related to the construction of a parallel Lahore-Karachi track was under consideration. It would be a freight corridor, specifically for freight trains. The corridor will connect Pipri with Karachi Port and help resolve traffic issues in the city. Khan was also told that Pakistan Railways had prepared a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model for the Karachi Circular Railway. The transport project will ensure better services for passengers. He was told that a consultant had been appointed for the technical design and model of the project and he would present his recommendations in the next 30 days.
