FAISALABAD:

Pakistan should produce skilled and qualified technologists to step up the pace of industrialisation, said Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Engineer Hafiz Ihtasham Javed.

Speaking at a meeting of the FCCI Standing Committee on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Javed stressed the need for further improving the industry-academia linkages.

He stated that societal values had created a trend of producing doctors and engineers by downgrading the technologists and other professionals, which were deemed necessary to strengthen the industrialisation process.

He highlighted that the FCCI, along with the IEEE, acknowledged the importance of technologists and was regularly organising awareness sessions to harness their skills and expertise in addition to elevating their social status.

The FCCI chief added that the textile printing sector had been using basic printing machinery for the past eight years. “However, still we have to invite technologists from China and European countries for troubleshooting,” he said.
