Police nab family for ‘fraud under guise of marriage’

The North Nazimabad Police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a family accused of defrauding citizens under the guise of marriage.
The arrests were made when the family, comprising Naemuddin, his sons - Ibad, who was the groom, and Tanazzal - and his wife, reached a wedding hall along with a barat.
According to North Nazimabad SHO Rashid Ali, the action was taken on the complaint of a man who had fixed his daughter’s marriage with Ibad.
The complainant told the police he had already given a dowry to Naeemuddin’s family, in addition to Rs50,000 for the groom’s apparel. He said Naeemuddin had introduced himself to him as a retired official of an intelligence agency, however, he suspected of him being a fraud.
The SHO said an investigation into the matter revealed that the entire family was involved in fraudulent activities and a case was registered against them on the complainant’s behalf. He added that Naeemuddin would pose as a retired Customs, police or intelligence agency official and swindle people.
