LAHORE:

Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan came down hard on the conduct of the provincial government and imposed a fine of Rs100,000 for not submitting a reply on a case for over one year.

The province’s top judge was hearing a matter wherein an Auqaf assistant director had moved the Lahore High Court over not being regularised by his department even after 20 years.

As the proceedings commenced, the CJ Khan remarked “over one year has passed but the Punjab government has not yet submitted its reply”.

The CJ Khan rejected the request of the additional advocate general for awarding one time opportunity to submit a reply.

Petitioner Auqaf assistant director Muhammad Imran had filed a petition against his department alleging he has been serving for 20 years on contract but his department was not ready to regularise him.

Several applications had been submitted before his high ups but all in vain as no one was ready to address his grievances, he stated.

He implored the court that he was not being promoted to the next grade owing to serving on a contract basis.

He prayed the court that direction be passed to concerned authorities to regularise his service in the department.
