ISLAMABAD:

A head constable was killed and two other policemen were injured when unidentified motorbike riders opened fire on them within the remits of Golra police station on Sunday.

Sub-Inspector Jamil Ahmed, Head Constable Qasim and Constable Qaiser were on routine patrol when they set up a picket on Container Chowk in Sector G-13.

Qasim signalled two men riding a motorbike to stop for checking. However, the suspect opened fire on the police and fled. Ahmed, Qasim and Qaiser were rushed to Pims, however, Qasim succumbed to his injuries.

Operations SSP Afzal Kausar rushed to Pims and also surveyed the crime scene. The whole Saddar zone was cordoned off to net the suspects.

Islamabad IG Qazi Jamilur Rehman came to the hospital to meet the injured cops and issued directions to trace and arrest the culprits.

More Transferred CPO yet to relinquish charge

Interior Minister Shiekh Rasheed has sought a detailed report of the incident.

Rasheed ordered best medical care for the injured policemen and said that the suspects will not be allowed to escape.

Talking to the media at Pims, the minister said that IG police will oversee the investigation of the case.
