MNA-underage girl marriage reports denied

Local organization had lodged an FIR with the Chitral City police station on February 16

Chitral police have submitted its enquiry report to the Commission on the status of women in which it claimed that the reports of the marriage of an underage girl Safia Ayaz to the 60 year old Salahuddin in Chitral are baseless.

A local organization Dawat-e-Azeemat Chitral had lodged an FIR with the Chitral City police station on February 16 in which it stated that the marriage ceremony of an underage girl is being solemnized with an aged person of Balochistan (MNA Salahuddin Ayubi) through a middle man.

“Police initiated an enquiry and concerned SHO was rushed to spot (rented house of the alleged underage girl Miss Safia Ayaz D/O Mr Ayazur Rehman resident of Darosh Chitral) but found the house locked. Police tried to trace them at their permanent residence (village Darosh) but all the efforts went in vain,” says the report.

“The evidence collected during enquiry revealed that the family of the alleged underage girl left Chitral and is somewhere at Peshawar,” it says.

The report further says that “In the meantime the father of the alleged underage girl joint the inquiry produced national identity card of the alleged underage girl, according to CNIC her date of birth is 08.02.2003 and the date of issue of the same is 15.02.2021”
