LAHORE:

An anti-narcotics court judge issued notices to the guarantors, who had submitted surety bounds when Punjab PML-N president Rana Sanaullah had been granted bail in a drug smuggle case, over his non-appearance.

The judge directed the guarantors to ensure presence of Sana before court on March 20.

As the proceedings commenced on Saturday, Sana’s counsel argued that he was busy in National Assembly’s session, which was why he could not appear before the court. The judge accepted Sana’s application seeking one-day exemption from personal appearance owing to the session.

According to the FIR lodged by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) deputy director operations on July 1, 2019, under Sections 186,189, and 353 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 9C of the CNSA 1997, the ANF received information of Sana’s involvement in drug smuggling and that he was carrying heroin to Lahore.

The ANF arranged a raiding team consisting of 21 officials. They reached the Ravi Toll Plaza and intercepted two vehicles on the motorway.

When Sana was interrogated about the drugs, he admitted there was heroin in a suitcase behind his seat, the FIR alleged.

Meanwhile, Sana’s guards attempted to help him escape but failed.

The police seized 15kgs of heroin, guns, pistols and bullets from their possession and took them to the ANF headquarters, the complainant stated.
